Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?


For our horror film , we wanted it to be psychological and disturbing . We managed to do this because our horror film is full of moments from the past , which shows some gruesome and psychopathic scenes. Our horror film has a wide range of camera shots to show tension and to hook in our audience. Some of the shots include , over the shoulder shots, high angle and low angle shots to show dominance and power. We have many inspirations such as the human centipede and texas chainsaw massacre which tells a story of a man who kills people to build up body parts , which is similar to our media film. We made our film difficult to understand at the beginning because the audience needs to be hooked in to watch every moment and connect with the charecters and what is really happening.






How does your product represent particular social groups?

 Our film is based around a teenage audience and this is because our main charecter is a teenager in college , we feel that this audience will connect more with the story and the charecter. A link between the audiences life and the charecters life may occur if the audience get reminded of their family and relationships at home.






What kind of media institution might distribute your film and why?

Brain Damage Films is an independent horror film distribution. They only concentrate on horror films of any kind, and therefore our film will be more successful. Brain Damage Films has been one of the most respected independent horror film distributors worldwide. Our horror film would fit under psychological horror films.






Who would be the audience for your media products?

Our audience is teenagers between the ages of 18-24 ,so they will have free time on their hands so they can go to watch our film , but at first our target audience was 16-25 , this had to be changed because of the violence and gore scenes. We have chosen this audience because it is easier to find out what the audience wants in a horror film as they are always intrested in diffrent types of film and go to the cinema with freinds.




What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

We have used a rang of diffrent technologies , for exapmle the Apple Mac for the main video editing which was hard for me to handle as i have never used a Mac before, but after a week i managed to get used to it and soon learnt skills in video editing. We did not have alot of time to edit , so we had to miss the oppertunity of having our preliminary work on the DVD . But we managed to fit our opening credits on the DVD which made us fall a little behind because the Mac is a really old version and also very slow , something went wrong with the opening credits. We was going to use a photo of Ivana's shed for the title of the dvd as a background cover but we failed to have time.






Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

Before this project i had no idea on how to work a camcorder and how many shots you can use and how to use them in a creative way. I did not know how important angles were in a film until this project, realising this we used alot of angle types in our film and also the use of black and white to represent the past in a flashback. The use of music is a must , and especially in a horror film because if you have eerie music it makes the audience sweat with fear and wonder whats going to happen next.

Idea

Flashback

Dad makes mum a drink but puts a killing drug in the tea. Danni's mum complains and says" It's about time you made me a drink you never do enything for me , your always busy busy busy!" The argument and tones of voices raise higher as Danni's dad says back "Well i have made you one now so drink up and stop nagging at me!" He told her top drink up so she would taste the drug faster and he can run away before Danni would find out what erally happened , but he doesnt know that danni witnessed the murder. Danni's mother is watching tv and she notices it is hot in the room so she says " It is hot in here , i told you to open the window but i guess i will do it myself you never listen!". After , she gets up and reaches for the window to open it and starts to sway side to side saying " oh i feel funny , whats happening?", she suddenly falls to the floor and dies. Danni at this point, is frozen stiff with fear. Danni's dad looks at her mother with his hands pressing down his face "oh no , i killed her.. i never meant to go this far!" He runs for the front door and to the car slamming the door shut sitting with his hands over his eyes. Shortly after, he starts the car and drives off in a hurry and never returns back.

Plot

Dannie is a 17 years old girl who's parents, John and Rose, died when she was just 16. Ever since then she tried hard to have a normal life, but it was really hard for her. She got to the point where should couln't cope with a life without parents anymore and she start's thinking about murdering people to bring her parents back. One day at college, she reads a book when a photo falls out of it. She picks it up and realises how much she misses her parents. The flashback brings the worst memories and the emotional feelings of sadness and anger back to her. She grabs the key she took of her dead mothers neck, and heads home straight to the back garden shed. That's where all the killing and recreating happens. She uncovers the already dead body and starts cutting it open with amateur equipment until she gets the heart out of it. Next day, she comes back to college all scruffy and she looks for another person to kill and use body parts and organs from. This goes on for a while until she has everything she neads. When everything is stiched and stapeled together the truth is revealed. It was her parents she was recreating, and now she has them back.

Last week was a very productive week for filiming. We filmed half of our opening scene in just two and a half hours. We filmed me walking home from college, and me in a lesson reading the book, dead souls.

Main Props

Dead souls is a very important prop in our horror film. This is the book Danni reads and is the only book she reads in college and it gives her ideas about killings in an unusal way.

This is pictures of our storyboard we have produced it shows all the types of shots and angles used , with detailed drawings you can see the characters emotions and feelings in the shots. The arrows in the diagrams represent the dircetiion the charecter will move.

Mind map

This is a basic mind map of all the information on "Doll shed". It explains the plot , charecters , locations throughout the opening , props , and also the film name. We have decided to change our film name to doll shed because it links in more with the charecter.

Charecters

Main charecter

The main charecter in our horror film is a teenage girl called Danni Palmer. She is rebelious but very anti-social with no social life. Danni is also unhygineic with dirty clothes and greesy messy hair, with smudged makeup from the night before from drinking alchohol. Danni is a heavy smoker and drinker and does it everyday after school which she thinks helps her with her issues and depression.

Other charecters

These are the other charecters that will apear in our horror opening. They are the parents of Danni and are middle class working people living in a normal neighbourhood. The father , John is a bigger build and dresses ordinary with clothes and glasses but this hides the fact he has mental issues . The mother Rose , is also middle working class and has a quiet personallity with blonde hair and a tall and skinny build. The parents will appear in a flashback which will show John murdering rose and then killing himself.

My favorite horror film

My favorite horror film is Chucky. This is because it is a surreal horror film and is not a real life story. What makes the film surreal is that the antagonist, the killer is a doll that is made for young children. The story line is about a antagonist which is chucky the doll, which is a murderer. A young mother gives chucky to her son as a birthday gift because he really wanted one for his birthday , but little does he know a voodoo spirit is trapped inside the doll making him evil and a murderer. chucky is from a brand called "good guy dolls" which is funny because he isnt a good guy at all. The young boy , Andy soon finds out the doll is alive by the spirt not by batteries, and realises the doll is a killer. Andy then tries to get rid of Chucky but he keeps coming back to get him and that's why Chucky was made into a sequel there are four films in total.
